Miscellaneous Information:

As the Royal Institute of Navigation enters its 75th Anniversary (2022/3) we hope and believe that our founders would be proud of what has been achieved. They would also recognise the core aims, which remain:

• To unite in one body those interested in navigation;
• To advance the art, science and practice of navigation;
• To promote knowledge in navigation and its associated sciences, including positioning, timing, tracking and conduct of a journey, whether on, in, over or under land, sea, air or space.

In the past 75 years "navigation" has changed profoundly. Today we take almost for granted the ubiquitous nature of precise positioning and navigation. So much of our modern lives and the modern world is location-enabled or synchronised by precise time signals, often linking back to the clocks on board GPS or other navigation satellites.

Today's Royal Institute of Navigation, or "RIN", is world-renowned, with membership spanning 60 countries and all continents. RIN's activities cover the full breadth of navigation and precise timing, spanning land, sea, air and space and includes animal navigation, human cognition, navigable cities and buildings and all domains of the practice of navigation.

Membership of RIN is open to all. If you're curious, which we hope you are, we would love to hear from you. Many events are both free to attend and open to non-members. We aim to offer a friendly welcome to everyone and we hope to see you soon at one of our Webinars or even in-person events.
